Corrections and clarifications

  • In the Rohit Brijnath column “Versatile Djokovic ready for his new life” (“Sport”, January 30, 2008) the fifth paragraph was: “Grand Slam titles alter lives substantially, and it is first exciting, then suffocating, and Becker the boy struggled with his new world, even wearing outrageous wigs in a bid to find anonymity. His game, too, was only finding itself, and his first Slam outside grass would arrive four years later at the Australian Open in 1989.” It was an error and should have been the “U.S. Open in 1989”.

  • The name of the chairman and managing director, Indian Overseas Bank, was incorrectly given as S.S. Bhat in a report “IOB’s Q3 net up” (“Business” page, January 31, 2008). It should have been S.A. Bhat.

  • In a cricket report “Central in arrears despite Kaif’s big score” (“Sport”, January 29, 2008), the fifth paragraph was: “Kaif’s patience in waiting for loose balls and Mahesh Rawat’s cheeky shots resulted in a sixth wicket stand worth 84 runs”, while the scores were “Fall of wickets: 1-6, 2-49, 3-73, 4-91, 5-134, 6-268, 7-319, 8-357, 9-362.” The scores are right. It was a 134-run stand for the sixth wicket between Kaif and Rawat.

  • In a report on the opening day of the 28th senior National archery championship at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, titled “Fancied names disappoint” (“Sport”, January 29, 2008), the second paragraph was “National women’s recurve champion Dola Banerjee, who won the top prize in the World Cup finals at Dubai in November, finished second in the 70m event and failed to find a place in the top three in the 50m.” The scorecard gave it as “Recurve: Women: 60m”. Dola did not finish in the top 3 in the 60m event, and not 50m as mentioned in the report. The results are right.
