Leaders seek dismissal of DMK government for “failure to maintain law and order”

CHENNAI: Members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a walkout in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday protesting what they later claimed to be the “State Government’s failure in maintaining law and order.”

As Governor Surjit Singh Barnala rose for his customary address, AIADMK legislature party deputy leader O. Panneerselvam read out a statement. He told presspersons later that the AIADMK had urged the Centre to dismiss the DMK Government as “law and order situation has deteriorated.” Tamil Nadu, which was a peaceful State during the previous AIADMK regime, had become “a hideout for terrorists.”

Outside, Mr. Panneerselvam and his party colleagues shouted slogans urging the Centre to dismiss the DMK Government.

MDMK members walk out

Members of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam also staged a walkout.

After the Governor completed his address, the party members, protesting against the Government’s “failure” in protecting the interests of farmers, walked out even while the Speaker was reading the Tamil translation of the Governor’s address.
