Held under Goondas Act

MADURAI: A rice mill owner who was found in possession of 25,852 kg of ration rice has been detained under the Goondas Act.

According to an official release, Civil Supplies officials raided the mill owned by S. Saravanan in the South Gate area on January 12. They found 525 bags of ration rice stocked on the mill premises. The accused was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supply of Essential Commodities Act, 1980 and lodged in the Madurai Central prison on Wednesday.

Collector S.S. Jawahar has warned that stringent action would be taken against those indulging in smuggling of essential commodities.
