Ellis Nagar bridge work to be expedited

MADURAI: The district administration has initiated steps to expedite the construction of the Ellis Nagar road over-bridge, according to Collector, S. S. Jawahar.

Briefing presspersons here on Monday, he said that talks were held with the Highways Department to expedite the work, and with Forest department officials on removal of trees.

Seven spans of the bridge were ready.

Construction of the over-bridge in Sellur had to be suspended because of the revised estimate submitted by the contractor, escalating the cost quoted in the original estimate, citing steep rise in prices of building materials.

The proposal to call for tenders from new contractors had been sent to the Government for approval, Mr. Jawahar said.
