Roaring ahead: TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu greets the crowds at ‘BC Garjana’ in Warangal on Wednesday. WARANGAL: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu exhorted the Backward Classes (BCs) to stand united and revolt against the indifference of the government to secure their due share in all sectors and assured that his party would stand by them. Addressing an impressive gathering at the TDP’s ‘BC Garjana’ here, Mr. Naidu used the platform to launch a scathing attack on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and other Congress leaders and accused them of amassing wealth by resorting to corrupt practices. MarginalisedThe BCs continued to be neglected and marginalised and were deprived of opportunities in education and employment. “The Yellampalli project estimates were revised to pocket Rs. 359 crore overnight. The Jalayagnam programme was being utilised by Congress leaders and contractors to make money. The Chief Minister and his people sold away land worth rupees one lakh crore at cheaper rate. Had the government spent at least a little of that amount, the BCs would have benefited to a great extent,” he said amidst cheering crowds. Modern toolsClaiming that traditional occupations were on the verge of extinction and that people were displaced, he said the TDP would set right this imbalance. “The rural poor are leaving their villages in search of employment and are a confused lot now. They do not get modern tools or implements as they used to in TDP regime which launched ‘Adarana’ with Rs. 400 crore. This government was not bothered about the plight of any community.” The poor remained poor as the government favoured only the rich. The fruits of welfare schemes were not reaching the targeted, he said. BC leadersListing out the political initiatives taken by his party for BC welfare, he said Y. Ramakrishnudu, K. Yerran Naidu, T. Devender Goud and several other BC leaders emerged with the help of TDP, but now the Congress did not give a single ministry to BCs at Centre.
