Padmapriya moves up

Mysore: Local lass and the eighth seed A.K. Padmapriya prevailed over second seed, Teertha Iska of Andhra Pradesh 7-6(3), 6-1 and entered the girls’ under-18 singles semifinals of the Shafi Darashah-AITA Championship Series junior tennis tournament being conducted here by Raghuveer Tennis Club on Wednesday.

In a well contested tie, Padmapriya with her flowing strokes, hit consistent winners on her forehand and had her rival under pressure. Trading breaks early in the first set, the two moved into a tiebreaker and Padmapriya went on to clinch the first set.

She continued her dominance in the second set and wrapped up the match.

Saadgi upsets Soumya

Padmapriya was joined in the last four by unseeded Saadgi Rajani of Gujarat, who upset fourth seed, Soumya Pulumati of AP 7-5, 6-3. The other semifinalists are the top seed, Bhavani Ravishankar and fifth seed Rachana R. Gowda of Karnataka.

Finals advanced

In order to facilitate the players here to take part in the Super Series at Kolkata, the finals are being advanced to Thursday from Friday. The results: Boys: U-12 singles (Semifinals): S.K. Mukund (AP) bt S.D. Prajwal Dev (Kar) 6-4, 4-6, 6-0; T.S. Jude Raymond (AP) bt Jayanth Jayaram (TN) 6-2, 6-2.

Quarterfinals: Mukund bt M.S. Rakshith (Kar) 6-2, 6-0; Prajwal bt I. Akhill (Kar) 6-2, 6-1; Jude bt Ishaque Eqbal (WB) 6-0, 6-3; Jayanth bt B.S. Rahul (Kar) 6-2, 6-3.

U-18 singles (Quarterfinals): Sriram Gautham (AP) bt Uttam Singh (Kar) 7-6(2), 6-0; Elwin Anthony (TN) bt S. Prasanth (TN) 6-1, 6-2; Maninder Singh (Har) bt Vinod Gowda (Kar) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2; M.A. Navin (TN) bt Pradeep K. Reddy (AP) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Girls:U-12 singles (Quarterfinals): Teertha Iska (AP) bt Ashwini Suresh (TN) 6-0, 6-1; Dhruthi T. Venugopal (Kar) bt Roma Chandiran (TN) 6-1, 6-0; Jasmine Kaur Bajaj (Del) bt D. Nayanika Reddy (AP) 6-0, 7-5(5); Akshara Iska (AP) bt A.V. Rithika (Ker) 6-1, 6-2.
