Gopal, Harika score wins

NEW DELHI: Grandmaster G.N. Gopal and D. Harika won while 18th seed Sandipan Chanda surprisingly drew in the opening round of the Gibtelecom Masters chess tournament at Gibraltar on Monday.

The results (involving Indians): First round: Gerard Welling (Ned) drew with Sandipan Chanda; Michael Langer (USA) lost to G.N. Gopal; D. Harika bt Henry Steel (RSA); Algimantas Butnorius (Ltu) bt N. Srinath; Till Wippermann (Ger) bt Kruttika Nadig.
