Serena confirms participation

Principal Correspondent

Bangalore: Last year, the media was left breathless at the HAL Airport after Serena Williams failed to turn up for the Bangalore Open.

This year, however, promises to be different as Serena Williams is the first top-drawer tennis player to confirm her entry for the Bangalore Open WTA Tier II event at the KSLTA Signature Kingfisher Stadium here from March 3 to 9. The KSLTA secretary C.S. Sunder Raju told the media here on Wednesday evening that Serena has indeed confirmed her participation in the event.

“It gives us great pleasure to confirm the participation of Serena Williams in the Bangalore Open this year. She is the first big marquee player to sign up. We have received a call from her office expressing her desire to participate in the event and to make up for her absence last year. She is keen to play in Bangalore ,” Sunder Raju said.
