MPG in quarterfinals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MPG Cricket Academy, Oktopals and City Cricketers entered the quarterfinals of the 13th Celestial Trophy all-Kerala cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

In the pre-quarterfinal matches, MPG scored a six-wicket win over YMCC while Oktopals defeated Presidency CC, Pathanamthitta by 110 runs.

The scores (pre-quarterfinals): YMCC (Tvm) 98 in 18.2 overs (Tanzeeb four for 37) lost to MPG Cricket Academy 101 for four in 16.3 overs; Oktopals (Tsr) 172 in 30 overs bt Presdiency CC (P’thitta) 62 in 18.3 overs (Renjith five for 14); City Cricketers (Tvm) 194 in 29.4 overs (Ashokan 47 not out) bt Kids CC (Tvm) 192 in 29.4 overs (Sajan Salim 57, Prasanth four for 27).

LVAV triumphs

Kolkata’s L.V. Adarsha Vidyalaya HSS defeated Rosary HSS (Navelim, Goa) 6-5 in sudden death and won the seventh Mar Athanasious Trophy all-India inter-school football tournament at the Municipal Stadium at Aluva on Wednesday evening.

The teams were level 1-1 at the end of the regulation period.

The goals came from Rosary’s Jolex Fernandes (15th minute) and Adarsha’s Rajaram Tudu (59th).

Special prizes: Biswajith Dutta (Adarsha, Kolkata, best player), Santu Paul (Adarsha, best goalkeeper), Keyson Velho (Rosary, Goa, best defender), Jolex Fernandes (Rosary, best midfielder), Biswajith Dutta (Adarsha, best forward), Brian Rodrigues (Rosary, top scorer). Subulu Samal HSS, Moorkkanad, Malappuram (fair play trophy), Sree Narayana HSS (Thrikkanarvattom, Ernakulam, Mini MAT winner), Government Boys HSS, Aluva (Mini MAT runner-up).

Raveendran nominated

P. Raveendran, the general secretary of Kerala State Carrom Association, has been nominated as the technical director for the fifth World Carrom Championship to be held in Cannes from February 13 to 17.
