Thrilling victory for Mani HSS

Coimbatore: Mani HSS scored a thrilling two-wicket win over Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Maha Vidyalaya MHSS in the semifinals of the CDCA inter-school cricket tournament for the Saravana Jewellers Trophy here on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 98, Mani’s struggled right through before a last ball six by Gokul saw it through.

The scores (semifinals):

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi 96 for eight in 25 overs (Harish Babu four for 27) lost to Mani HSS 101 for eight in 25 overs.

VCV GHSS 64 in 17.1 overs (Nithish Kumar Sahani four for 15) lost to RKS Kalvi Nilayam HSS 65 for two in 11.3 overs.

KCT is champion

Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) defeated Vidyasagar College (Udumalpet) 5-3 (via tiebreaker) to emerge champion in the SDAT block level hockey tournament for men and women for the State Games here on Wednesday.

The results (final):

KCT 5 bt Vidyasagar (Udumalpet) 3 (via tiebreaker).

Semifinals: KCT bt Park (Sulur) 1-0; Vidyasagar bt Kallar HC (Karamadai) 1-0.

Mani HSS posts win

Mani HSS ousted Kikani HSS 2-1 (via tiebreaker) in the fifth junior football tournament for the Rao Bahadur Sri Gopalnaidu Memorial Rolling Trophy here on Wednesday.

Earlier, Nehru Vidyalaya HSS blanked PSG Saravajana HSS 5-0.

Chess tournament

Anand Chess Academy will conduct a district level chess tournament for various categories here on January 27 at 10 a.m.

Annamalai advances

Host Annamalai, Madras, Kerala and Calicut advanced to the semifinal league of the South Zone inter-University football tournament in Chidambaram on Wednesday.

The four teams have also qualified for the all-India inter-University tournament, which begins here on Monday.

Quarterfinals: Annamalai 3 (Balamurugan 1, Devadoss 1, Jayavasanthan 1) bt TNPE & SU 0; Kerala 1 (Arun 1) bt Bangalore 0; Calicut 6 (Farhan 2, Surjith 1, Suneer 1, Saleel 1, Rahul 1) bt Anna 0.

Madras 5 (Elamurugan 2, Jacob K. Rajan 1, T. Manikandan 1, M. Regin 1) bt Madurai Kamaraj 1 (Balasubramaniyan 1).
