NEW DELHI: Daman Datta drove home the golden principle of football — grab even a half chance when it comes to scoring. He did precisely that when slotting home the only goal of the match to enable Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj defeat Father Agnel School, Noida in the final of the ONGC-Hind Kishore inter-school football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday. Father Agnbel dominated the match It did everything but score. DPS, often reduced to defending, earned a providential opening that Datta splendid capitalized upon to swing the contest his team’s way. Samuel Lamkang would be haunted by the chance that he let go in the first half when Gaininglong Daimei shot out from the edge of the small box. Some hard work by Gaikungam Daimei kept the tempo for Father Agnel but poor finishing let the team down. A header by Francis Mantuong nearly brought Father Agnel a goal. Yurish Meetei was rocklike in defence for Father Agnel while Mutum Rakesh Singh explored the arena with vigour but it was DPS which scored through Datta. atta outsped a defender and beat the advancing goalkeeper with a deft placement. The ball rolled into the Father Agnel goal with 10 minutes left. A series of raids were mounted but Brian Mackland and Amar Singh left little room with their outstanding defending to see DPS through. Players receiving scholarship of Rs.1,000 each: Mutum Rakesh Singh (Father Agnel), Aditya Awasthi and Pranav Sharma (DPS), Akil Mehra (Sanskriti), Denzil Raj (St. Columba’s), Rahul Prasad (Tagore International), Aman (Laxman Public), Arjun (Springdales), Mangal (Ganga International), Tarush Bhatia (Modern, VV) and Jatin Shingari (Frank Anthony). — Special Correspondent
