Vaiko on fast to protest against unscheduled power cut
Special Correspondent
Thanjavur: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has been consistently fighting for the welfare of farmers and people of Tamil Nadu said Mr.Vaiko, general secretary of the party here on Wednesday.
He participated in a fast organised by the party to protest against unscheduled power cut in Tamil Nadu. He told presspersons at the fast venue, “we organised a fast at Vellore for Palar issue. On Mullaiperiyar issue we sat on a fast at Madurai. In support of various issues of farmers, we fasted at Kovilpatti. Now at Thanjavur, we are on a fast to protest against unscheduled power cut.” Though Thanjavur is called the granary of Tamil Nadu, farmers here are put to lot of hardships. The farmers should be given reasonable price for their produce. A sum of Rs.1000 per quintal of paddy should be paid to them. It is unfortunate that the Centre is not giving the remunerative price equal to wheat to paddy. “Only to highlight these problems, I am on fast here,” he added.
Durai Balakrishnan, Thanjavur district secretary of MDMK, Udhayakumar, State vice-president of youth wing, members of MDMK from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts participated.
