Tuticorin: The district administration conducted a mass contact programme at Kulayankarisal village panchayat on Wednesday, to provide a platform for the residents to raise their grievances directly to the officials concerned. Interacting with the villagers, the Collector, R. Palaniyandi, said that the administration had planned to implement seven projects to improve basic amenities in the village panchayat comprising Kulayankarisal, Pandiapuram, Podammalpuram, Ratnapuri, Thalavaipuram, Vedamanikapuram and Vinayakapuram hamlets, before the end of the current fiscal. The works would be executed using the funds allocated under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) and the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) schemes. Under the SGRY, a road of 600 metre stretch would be strengthened. Likewise, six dwellings would be constructed for people from economically weaker section using the corpus earmarked under the IAY. Dr. Palaniyandi informed the public that the entire 28 infrastructure development projects taken up by the administration in the village panchayat under various Government-sponsored schemes during the last fiscal, had been completed. The works included establishment of bore-well, library, burial ground, drainages, road, playground, pond and houses for SC/ST population. A total of 13 petitions were received by the Collector at the programme. Of them, nine were for new dwellings under the IAY, one seeking establishment of a garbage collection bin and another demanding upgrading of kutcha road into concrete road at Vinayakapuram hamlet. Members of Santanamariamman Self Help Group wanted the Collector to provide funds towards establishment of building for them to function. The Collector assured the petitioners that necessary action would be taken at appropriate time. As part of the (mass contact) programme, a special camp was organised by the Department of Health along with the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society (TANSACS). R.
