HYDERABAD: An unidentified woman kidnapped a three-day-old baby boy from the Government Maternity Hospital, Nayapul, on Tuesday.

The police launched a hunt for the suspected kidnapper, in her mid-30s, who befriended the infant’s mother Nisharatunnisa and family members for the past three days and disappeared with the boy in the afternoon.

Hailing from Golconda, Nisharatunnisa got admitted in the hospital for delivery last Friday. The same day, a woman introducing herself as Fatima, struck a conversation with Nisharatunnisa saying she came to see her sister, who too was admitted for delivery. Within hours, Fatima managed to win the confidence Nisharatunnisa’s family members. Nisharatunnisa delivered a baby boy the next day. Fatima continued to stay with them on the hospital premises. Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nisharatunnisa was shifted to another block for blood transfusion while her younger sister Amina Begum stayed back with the infant in the ward. Fatima, police said, had advised Amina to attend on her sister who was in another block assuring to look after the child.

Leaving the child in Fatima’s care, the unsuspecting Amina went to see Nisharatunnisa. When she returned, she noticed that Fatima had disappeared with the baby.

Vaccination

Assuming Fatima might have taken the infant for vaccination, she waited for some time but later started searching in vain along with other family members. “Fatima is said to be fair, medium built and tall,” the Charminar ACP B. Reddenna said. A portrait of Fatima is being prepared based on the description given.
