Ashok’s five-wicket haul in vain

TIRUCHI: Neptune CC’s V. Ashok Kumar took five for 26, but could not prevent St. Joseph’s College from scoring a one-wicket win in a Canara Bank–Tiruchi DCA first division league cricket match here.

The scores: First division: Neptune CC 167 for nine in 45 overs (K.B. Karthik 80) lost to St. Joseph’s College 168 for nine in 43.1 overs (E.M. Jose Mithun 53, R. Manivannan 45, V. Ashok Kumar five for 26).

Third division: Golden Chariot ‘B’ CC 197 for six in 39 overs (A. Franklin Kumar 42) bt Associated CC 178 for nine in 39 overs (J. Sathish Kumar 46, Selvakumar 41, Gunasekaran four for 33); Anna Nagar CC 185 in 41.2 overs (B. Sundarrajan 41) bt Tiruchi Medical Reps. CC 98 in 31 overs (N. Nagaraj four for 27); Warriors Avenue CC 66 in 26.1 overs (M. Vadivel four for 18) lost to Saranathan Engineering College 70 for four in 14.1 overs.

Fifth division: Manachanallur Junior CC 77 in 25.1 overs lost to Kaveri RC 79 for one in 16.1 overs; Indian CC 130 for six in 30 overs (T.N. Rajnikanth 45 n.o.) lost to Seagull CC 132 for six in 29.3 overs (K. Ramachandran 41 n.o.).

Glory to God FC scores win

Glory to God FC beat Praise the Lord FC 2-0 in a Tiruchi District Football Association third division ‘A’ zone league fixture here on Tuesday. Rajkamal and Arun were the scorers. Thuvakudi FC defeated Nathard MFC 2-0 in another encounter. Jayakumar and Vincent netted for the winner.

Throwball championship

The international triangular throwball championship for men and women will be held at Prof. Dr. Arumugam Students Centre, Kumaraguru College of Technology, (Coimbatore) from Jan. 24 to 26. Organised by the Throwball Federation of India, under the auspices of the Asian Throwball Federation, the event features India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
