Pratyush Srivastava of Little Flower HS won the title in the boys’ under-9 category in the Magna Academy open prize money chess tournament here.

Selection trials

Hyderabad Hockey Association will organise coaching camp-cum-selection trials from January 22 at AOC Centre (Secunderabad) to pick the State team for the junior nationals (under-18) to be held here next month. Interested may contact the chief coach Narinderpal Singh (SBI) and George Albert by 6.30 a.m. on the first day.

Narsing nominated

B. Narsing Prasad Rao, national umpire has been nominated as one of the umpires by the Indian Hockey Federation for the India-Belgium Test series to be played in Chennai from January 25 to 31.

Baran Software XI posts win

At Vijayawada, Baran Software XI defeated LEM Stars XI by eight wickets in the Guntur District Cricket Association ‘A’ division league tournament at Loyola Public School grounds at Guntur on Monday.

The scores:

LEM Stars XI 136 in 31 overs (I. Bhaskar 60, R.P. Srikanth three for 40, Suresh three for 28) lost to Baran Software XI 138 for two in 15 overs (R.P. Anil 64).

Ball badminton meet

Acharya Nagarjuna University will host the 53rd junior National ball badminton championship for u-18 boys and girls from January 27 to 30, according to ANU physical director Kishore.

He said 22 boys’ and 18 girls’ teams from various States will take part in the tournament to be held in league-cum-knock-out basis.
