Anand beats Topalov

NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand continued his strong comeback into the title-race of the Corus chess tournament with a commanding victory over Bulgaria’s Veselin Topalov in the eighth round at Wijk ann Zee, near Amsterdam, here on Sunday.

Anand, who raised his tally to 4.5 points, shares the fourth spot with his conqueror in the first round, Azerbaijan’s Teimour Radjabov.

Magnus Carlsen (5.5 points) stayed in the lead after drawing with Boris Gelfand.

Parimarjan Negi sscored his fifth victory in six games to be joint third with five points in Group ‘C’.
