Rahul triumphs
CHANDIGARH: Rahul Bakshi became the youngest all-India amateur champion when he beat Abhishek Jha with seven holes to spare, in the 36-hole final in the 107th LG all-India Open amateur golf championship here.
It was Bakshi’s second National amateur title within a month after he had won the Sunfeast all-India Junior championship.
“Abhishek is a good match-play player and comes with more experience, but I was surprised by his lack of form,” said Bakshi.
There was occasional brilliance from them at the start before Bakshi completed the first 18 holes four up. Jha lost the grip on the match as the local lad Bakshi kept up the pressure and improved his lead gradually.
At the final turn Bakshi was seven up and it was just a formality as he sunk a birdie from a tough lie to be eight up. Jha’s misery ended as both shared the next hole.
The result: Rahul Bakshi beat Abhishek Jha 8 and 7.
