Those with plan approvals issued after July 1, 2007 can apply Revenue inspectors to visit site of those without plan approval CHENNAI: Supply of cement at Rs.200 a bag through godowns of the Civil Supplies Corporation in different parts of the State will begin on Monday. Those who require cement and have plan approvals issued after July 1, 2007 can apply to the respective headquarters deputy tahsildars and get the allotment order. Along with the order, they should go to the local godown with a demand draft drawn in favour of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation issued by a nationalised bank. In the case of those who do not have the plan approval, revenue inspectors will visit the construction site. On the basis of their advice, allotment orders will be issued. A maximum of 100 bags will be given to those who build houses of not more than 1,000 sq.ft. Designed to contain cement prices, the scheme is targeted at lower and middle income groups. [About 10 days ago, representatives of seven leading cement companies informed Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that they were ready to supply a maximum of 400 bags (50 kg a bag) to each consumer belonging to the economically-backward sections and the middle class on the basis of permits to be issued by district officials concerned.] On the maximum quantity of cement to be sold at the prescribed rate, a senior official of the Industries department says the Government will take a decision after watching the demand situation. According to a Civil Supplies Corporation spokesperson, some of its godowns have started receiving the cement stock. By Wednesday, all godowns in the State will have the stock. A press release issued by Chennai Collector R. Jaya stated that the supply in the city would begin on Monday. Import As for the bids floated by the Cements Corporation for the import of cement of one lakh tonnes/month for which the bids were received till Monday last, the official of the Industries Department says negotiations are on to bring down the price quoted by bidders. The deal is likely to be finalised by the month-end.
