Ludhiana: Sunil Chhetri scored once and set up the second to help JCT score an easy 2-0 win over Viva Kerala in a 12th round encounter of the ONGC I-League here on Saturday. JCT failed to stamp its authority in a scoreless first half but showed its mettle after resumption with Chhetri in the thick of things. Chhetri dribbled past a couple of defenders before feeding Eduardo da Silva who sent a powerful grounder to put the Punjab side ahead in the 56th minute. Man-of-the-match Chhetri rounded off the tally four minutes later. Viva Kerala missed a golden opportunity to reduce the margin in the 80th minute when Wisdom Abbey’s shot missed the target by a whisker. JCT now have 25 points from 12 matches while the Kerala side have collected 12 points from 12 games. JCT takes on Air India in the next round at home on February 10. Churchill posts winAt Margao, Odafe Okolie’s last gasp goal helped Churchill Brothers come from behind to edge out Salgaocar 2-1. Salgaocar, which played an organised game in the first half, took the lead in the 41st minute through Rocus Lamare. Churchill Brothers, which fought back in the second half, scored through Mboyo Lyomi (74th) and Okolie, who found the net in the injury time. The win took Churchill to 23 points from 12 matches, four points behind leader Dempo (27). Salgaocar, after today’s defeat, has five points from as many matches. At Mumbai, Mahindra United upset Dempo 3-1. — PTI
