Association wants approval process expedited and separate set of Development Control Rules for Coimbatore ‘All approval procedures should be computerised and building rules published online and in print format’ COIMBATORE: The Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore has appealed to the State Government to permit local bodies approve building plans for upto 10,000 sq.ft. plinth area. Now, local bodies approve plans for buildings of maximum 2,000 sq.ft only. The approval process should be expedited and a separate set of Development Control Rules should be prepared for Coimbatore at the earliest. Each city should have a separate set of rules based on its growth pattern and demography, the association has said in a release. All approval procedures should be computerised and building rules published online and in print format too. A Coimbatore Urban Development Authority should be formed. IndexOn roads, the association said the floor space index should be linked to road width. Wider the road, more floor space index should be provided on an incremental basis. New layouts coming up should have roads that were at least 10 metres wide. Further, in addition to this, the width should be linked to the length of the road. The association also said that the Government should encourage vertical development with more open space around the building. Plot coverage should be less and height of buildings should be increased, the association has suggested.
