Mobile medical units launched

Staff Reporter

Under National Rural Health Mission in Kadavur and Krishnarayapuram blocks

KARUR: To take modern medical facilities to remote villages, the Department of Public Health has launched two mobile medical units in Kadavur and Krishnarayapuram blocks of Karur district.

The units, commissioned under the National Rural Health Mission, commenced their tours last week.

Each unit comprises a medical officer, a nurse, an assistant and a driver.

Official sources said that a team of professionals had been exclusively deputed for the mobile medical units.

Two halts every day

They would be halting in two places every day _ one in the morning and the other in the evening and would be given no other work.

The units have drawn up tour programmes and the dates of visit will be conveyed in advance to the respective villages. Boards would be put up announcing their visit.

The blocks will be covered in a month, says Collector T. N. Venkatesh.

Later, all the blocks in Karur district would be provided the facility gradually.

The units will carry blood pressure apparatus, rapid kits for blood, urine investigations, pregnancy tests, intravenous lines, stretchers and first-aid kits, besides outpatient drugs.

The purpose is to provide regular follow-up medical attention, carry out better antenatal care and provide BP and sugar level investigations. The units will station themselves in a prominent place in the villages.

The activities of the units will be monitored on a daily basis and reported to the State headquarters.

Close scrutiny

Hence, their health delivery utility will be scrutinised closely, according to Deputy Director of Health Services K. Sadasivam.
