NEW DELHI: Iffyani Nkenchor and Trilok Singh Bisht scored within a space of two minutes late in the match as Indian National FC defeated Ahbab Club 2-0 and cruised into the final of the SAIL-ONGC Delhi Soccer Association’s senior division football championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Thursday. After well-contested 80 minutes, Ahbab’s custodian Mohammed Atif let in the late strikes from Indian National. First, Nigerian Nkenchor sent a powerful shot from the top of the box which Atif misjudged while rushing to stop the attempt in the 82nd minute. Indian National increased the pressure soon after going 1-0. After getting a pass from the midfield, Bisht fired a shot from outside the box and Atif fumbled in collection to make it 2-0 in Nationals favour. Earlier, substitute Rajeev missed an open chance in the first half before National’s midfielders Rishi Kapoor and Bisht mounted pressure, but Ahbab defenders Jasbir Singh and Virender Bhakuni stood firmly to thwart the attacks. Nationals will await the winner of the second semifinal between New Delhi Heroes and Tarun Sangha. The final will be played on Monday.
