TN retains title

KOCHI: Tamil Nadu, which made heavy gains in athletics, retained the overall title in the Central Revenue South Zone Sports Meet which concluded here on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu, which topped athletics with 293 points, finished with a total of 390 points while Kerala was second overall with 160.

Tamil Nadu’s Rajesh Pran Mathyas and C.Christy won the individual championships in men’s and women’s athletics.

The results (finals): Football: Central Excise, Kochi 2 (Bijesh Ben, Rafeeq Hassan) bt Chennai Customs 1 (Preman). Cricket: Income Tax, Andhra Pradesh 156 lost to Central Excise, Karnataka 158 for two. Hockey: Central Excise, Karnataka bt Central Excise, Tamil Nadu 1-0. Kabaddi: Central Excise, TN bt Central Excise, Karnataka.

Athletics: Team champions: 1. Tamil Nadu (293 pts), 2. Kerala (70), 3. Karnataka (66). Individual champions: Rajesh Pran Mathyas (TN, men), C.Christy (TN, women). — Principal Correspondent
