Man stabbed to death

CHENNAI: A 35-year-old man with criminal cases against him was stabbed to death near the Nochikuppam area on Wednesday. The victim succumbed to injuries at the Government General Hospital.
Police said that Lingesan of Nochikuppam near Ice House had committed several crimes in the past. He was an alcoholic and used to threaten pavement vendors and shopkeepers, demanding ‘mamool’.
He got into a wordy altercation with a few vendors around 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, which, in a short while, turned into an exchange of physical blows. In the melee, someone stabbed Lingesan with a knife.
Shopkeeper dies
A 52-year-old tailor, identified as Rajendran of Mint Street, who was admitted to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital after allegedly being assaulted by his neighbour, succumbed to injuries on Wednesday.
Police said that a few days ago, Rajendran and his neighbour Murugan (32) had an argument that led to an exchange of blows. Following this, Rajendran was admitted to the hospital. The Seven Wells police have registered.
