Adi Dravidar hamlets get overhead tanks

TWAD completes work at a cost of Rs. 27.91 lakh
|
NAMAKKAL: The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board has completed the construction of 70 overhead water tanks at an estimated cost of Rs. 27.91 lakh in Adi Dravidar and tribal hamlets in the district.
The construction of 12 more overhead tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres, in tribal hamlets was in progress, a press release said.
The board had also undertaken repair and maintenance works in overhead tanks and created new water supply provisions in 64 habitations in the district. It had spent a sum of Rs. 83.61 lakh for these works.
The TWAD completed the construction of tanks each with a capacity of 5,000 litres in 32 government high and higher secondary schools and five government hostels at a cost of Rs. 47.38 lakh.
Besides, drinking water provisions were created in four cattle markets in the district. The construction of 24 check dams with the Central Government assistance to harvest rain water in the district was also completed, the release said.
The board had taken up works to the tune of Rs. 8.99 crore under the mini-power pump scheme to provide drinking water supply in 245 habitations in the district.
