MYSORE: The city police arrested former corporator Syed Akram Pasha on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing two youth. Acting on a complaint filed by the victims, Tanveer Ahmed and Kausar Pasha, the police took Syed Akram Pasha into custody and produced him in court on Wednesday. However, he wasreleased on bail. Police said Syed Akram Pasha, who represented Ward No. 45, covering Bannimantap and surrounding areas, in the previous term of the Mysore City Corporation, had stabbed Tanveer Ahmed and Kausar Pasha. Both victims suffered injuries on their fingers and were admitted to K.R. Hospital for treatment. Narasimharaja police arrested Syed Akram Pasha and booked four cases against him under various sections of the IPC. His arrest sparked a protest by his supporters, who gathered in front of the Police Commissioner’s office on Wednesday. The supporters who wereled by the Vande Mataram Slum Welfare Association and Karnataka Slum Dwellers’ Association urged Commissioner Ravindranath to immediately release Syed Akram Pasha as “he was implicated in a false case”. Vande Mataram Slum Welfare Association president Raja Manikyam and Karnataka Slum Dwellers’ Association’s Mysore unit president B. Raju and secretary Sankappa, claimed that Syed Akram Pasha had been framed by persons who were arrested for selling fake tckets during the Jamboo Savari last year. The protesters claimed that Syed Akram Pasha had played a crucial role in bringing to light the fake torchlight parade tickets which led to the arrest of two persons. Deputy Commissioner of Police K.T. Balakrishna and other senior police officials pacified the agitators.
