Minister favours united A.P.

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy on Monday stated that he was very much in favour of a united Andhra Pradesh instead of separation, region-wise. However, he would favour merger of Anantapur with Karnataka in the event of separate statehood to different regions in the State.

Talking to mediapersons here, he felt that Anantapur district had a problem of irrigation water; it could be solved only if the district was identified with Karnataka, in the event of formation of separate States out of Andhra Pradesh. Water from Tungabhadra project would not be allowed into Anantapur by Karnataka farmers regardless of it being allocated.
