Special Correspondent

First of its kind in North India

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday assured the officials of the State Education Department that paucity of funds would not come in the way of development of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya at Khanpur Kalan.

Presiding over a meeting to review the ongoing works being executed at the Vishwavidyalaya in Sonepat district, Mr. Hooda said it was a unique women’s university which was the first of its kind in North India.

Since the Haryana Government had also declared the year 2008 as the Year of Education, there was a special thrust on promoting education in the State in a big way to enable the students to meet the global challenges, he added.

He said the Haryana State Road and Bridge Corporation was spending Rs. 80 crore on construction of new buildings and repair of various buildings on the campus of the university. He directed the authorities to ensure that all ongoing works are completed by July this year positively.

Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Gupta urged the Chief Minister to provide additional funds to meet the requirements of construction and compensation of acquired land. Commissioner and Secretary (PWD B and R) K.K. Jalan assured the Chief Minister that all ongoing works relating to his department would be completed by June-end.
