Youth Congress demands bigger share in selection of candidates

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: All India Youth Congress President Ashok Tanwar said on Saturday that he would request the party high command to give more seats to Youth Congress members to contest the Legislative Assembly elections.

He told presspersons here that the party had come to power in some States because of the hard work put in by the Youth Congress members. The claim of the office-bearers of the youth wings and National Students Union of India should be recognised. Six youth workers, who contested the recently held elections in Himachal Pradesh, defeated their rival BJP candidates, he said.

Membership drive

The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee had launched a membership drive to enrol 10 lakh youth. Already five lakh youth had been enrolled.

More party conventions would be launched at the block and taluk levels to create awareness about programmes launched by the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre, he said.
