Vaniyambadi councillors demand support from municipal officials

VANIYAMBADI: Councillors of the Vaniyambadi Municipality have regretted that they did not get adequate support from the official machinery.
At the council meeting held here on Tuesday, some councillors said that the officials delayed payments to the contractors. As a result, most of the development and maintenance works taken up in the wards have come to a standstill. Though the councillors alleged that they got immediate response from the higher officials, they said that the lower level staff were not cooperative and failed to attend to the issues raised by them.
Assurance
Chairman V.Sivaji Ganesan assured the councillors that he would not spare the staff for failing to immediately respond to the demands put forth by them.
But the councillors said that most of the development works got delayed owing to the ‘non-cooperative’ attitude of the official machinery.
A total of 36 councillors, including 9 women, have been elected to the council.
According to sources, most of the councillors were new comers. So, they are in need of training so that they can understand the basics of local governance.
At the council meeting held on Tuesday, a total of 92 resolutions were passed in five minutes. None of the resolutions was discussed.
The officials from the District Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board (TWAD) explained about the proposed Underground Sewerage Scheme for the Vaniyambadi town. The estimate for the scheme was over Rs.30 crore.
