Rehabilitation programme

KOLATHUR: A comprehensive rehabilitation programme for family members of torture victims of the Special Task Force (STF), which killed brigand Veerappan in an encounter, has been put in motion in a remote hillside village near here on Monday. Voluntary organisations such as Sudhanthra and Peoples Watch, with funds from the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, purchased 1 acre and 20 cents at Saveriarpuram near Kolathur in Mettur taluk and distributed it among the family members of 40 victims, who died at the hands of STF personnel during their search for the brigand in the forests abetting Kolathur since 1997. — Special Correspondent
