School building demolished, students sit out

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: Students of Rajan Corporation Upper Primary School at Srirangam had to sit in the open for nearly half-an-hour on Monday, as the Corporation began demolition of the school building for re-construction.

Sources said though alternative arrangements had been made for the students by the Education department beforehand, non-compliance on the part of the school authorities was the cause for confusion. After the students reportedly caused a commotion, they were taken to a nearby marriage hall.

Official sources said the department instructed the school to send the students to two other corporation schools in the neighbourhood. The message was not passed on to the students and their parents.
