Expedite works, says Collector

KARUR: Expedite all development works and tax realization activities being undertaken at the 11 town panchayats in Karur district, Collector T.N. Venkatesh urged the officials at a review meeting here on Monday.
Road works, solid waste management, drainage schemes, provision of basic amenities, streetlights establishment, desilting of lakes and ponds all totaling 153 works were taken up under the NABARD Scheme, Twelfth Finance Commission Grant Schemes, MP Local Area Fund Scheme, MLA Fund Scheme, rainwater harvesting during 2006-07 and have been completed at a cost of Rs. 2.55 crore.
During 2007-08 under various heads, metal road development, construction of school compound, community hall and such other works numbering 190 have been undertaken at a cost of Rs. 3.81 crore.
Similarly officials were told to expedite tax collection that was pending.
The Assistant Director (Town Panchayats), Dindigul Region, K. Bhojan, and executive officers of all town panchayats participated in the deliberations.
