KANCHEEPURAM: TNCC president M. Krishnasswamy staged a show of solidarity here on Saturday by organising a zonal-level meeting of Congress party office-bearers and elected representatives.

A large number of party workers took part in the meeting, organised to elicit views and suggestions from divisional, taluk and district-level office-bearers and members of local body and other elected representatives and sympathisers for strengthening the party’s base in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts.

Hundreds of flex boards, banners and party flags welcoming leaders of different factions lined the stretch from the Kancheepuram Road junction on the Chennai-Bangalore national highway up to the meeting venue in front of the Kancheepuram Municipality Office.

Congress MP and party affairs in-charge in Tamil Nadu Arunkumar, at a closed-door meeting, urged cadres to show the same enthusiasm during elections.

Emphasising that ‘unity’ was the need of the hour, Mr. Krishnasswamy promised that party posts would be given only to cadres who dedicated themselves to the party’s development in the State.

Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram stressed the need to issue identity cards to party workers, set up district-level party offices and organise public meetings to highlight the Centre’s achievements.
