Rally attacked, one injured
SANKAGIRI: One person was injured and vehicles damaged when miscreants threw stones at a rally organised by the Kongu Vellalar Peravai here on Saturday.
The rally was to mark the Peravai’s conference on ‘Prevention of misuse of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act’, at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district.
Police said when the rally was proceeding towards the conference venue, a few persons started throwing stones, injuring Peravai general secretary Eswaran. Traffic on the Salem-Coimbatore national highway was disrupted for over an hour.
Police have detained seven persons. — Staff Reporter
