‘The Government has allotted 19,045 gas connections and stoves to Namakkal district this fiscal’ NAMAKKAL: The State Government had taken efforts to ensure the distribution of free liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections and stoves and free colour television sets to all eligible families, Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy said. Participating in the distribution of free LPG connections and stoves in Elachiapalayam block here recently, he said that the selection of beneficiaries for these schemes was being carried out in a transparent manner and there was no discrimination in the process. The Government allotted 19,045 gas connections and stoves to Namakkal district this fiscal. More than 5,000 families were covered under the scheme so far. Of which, 2,132 families come under the Tiruchengode taluk, he said. Listing out the welfare schemes implemented by the government, Mr. Duraisamy said the Government had initiated all necessary efforts to improve the quality of life of people belonging to backward classes, Adi Dravidars, farmers and the poor. The Deputy Speaker said the Government allotted Rs. 20 lakh under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam to Chinna Manali village panchayat in Elachipalayam block. A total of 31 development works, including formation of concrete roads, street lighting, crematorium improvement works, laying of additional drinking water pipelines, construction of a mini tank, creation of pond and building of reading room would be carried out with the fund. Besides, development works to the tune of Rs. 5.44 lakh was being carried out in the village this fiscal under various other schemes. Later, Mr. Duraisamy handed over free LPG connections and stoves to 331 families in Chinna Manali and 386 in Mavureddypatti. He also distributed old-age pension to 17 persons. Senior officials were present.
