150 bags of PDS rice seized

Krishnagiri: District supply officials seized 150 bags of rice worth Rs.1.10 lakh meant for supply under the public distribution system, which was being smuggled in a lorry at Neralagiri on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team was conducting vehicle checks at Neralagiri check post when they intercepted the lorry and seized the rice bags. The lorry was going from Salem to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing of the rice in the open market.

Lorry driver Allimuthu of Salem was arrested.
