Pulse polio drive from tomorrow

Bangalore: As many as 914 high risk areas, including temporary settlements, construction sites, brick kiln huts, migrant population from these areas and beggars groups, have been identified in Bangalore (Urban) district for pulse polio coverage during the National Immunisation Days on January 6 and February 10.

These special measures have been taken following the detection of a polio case in Yeshwanthpur in Bangalore, where a two-year-old male child of migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh was infected by a wild polio virus type 3, Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore (Urban) district, M.A. Sadiq said here on Friday.

The first round of pulse polio under the national programme will be held from January 6 to 9 while the second round will be from February 10 to 13.

The number of booths has been increased to 1,751 and the target is to cover 4,57, 135 children below five years.
