Two get bail after marriage

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Two young men accused of criminally assaulting two young women in separate cases have been granted regular bail by a court here after they married their victims and submitted proof of it to the court. The girls had expressed their desire to marry the accused and the parents and other relatives of the victims had also consented to the marriage.

This past week Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau had granted interim bail to the two accused on their furnishing a bail bond of Rs.15,000 and a local surety of like amount. The court had directed the accused to come back with proof of their marriages with the victims.

Special bank accounts

Taking into account the fact that the two girls were pregnant, the court had also directed the accused to open a fixed deposit account in the name of the two women. The account would be transferred to their children when they turn 18. While the court had directed Rajesh to open an account with Rs.30,000, it had asked Amit to open an account with Rs.35,000. On Monday, while the court was satisfied with the photographs and other proof submitted by Amit, it was not happy with the photographs brought by Rajesh. The court granted him some more time and it took nearly 90 minutes more for the accused to gather evidence that satisfied the court.

Report to magistrate

Considering the fact that the accused were marrying women who had been their “victims”, the court also directed the local Station House Officers, where the accused would live with their wives, to report to their respective magistrates for one year on the well-being of the women.

As directed by the court, the family members and other relatives of both the accused as well as the two victims were present in the court when the court granted them bail.

Rajesh had been charged with criminal assault when the father of the victim lodged a complaint against him after knowing of his daughter’s pregnancy. However, in her statement before the magistrate, the girl said she wanted to marry Rajesh. But her father had told the court that his daughter was a minor.Amit, who used to work as a delivery boy, was booked for criminally assaulting a housemaid . The complaint was lodged by the maid’s employer after he found out that she was four months pregnant.

In this case, too, the girl had expressed a desire to stay with Amit.
