Minister hands over pattas to over 800 beneficiaries at Edapadi

Lists out various schemes implemented by the Government

SALEM: Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam handed over pattas pertaining to 776 acres to 883 beneficiaries under the sixth phase of two-acre free land scheme in Edapadi on Sunday.

Speaking in the function, the Minister s the Government had announced 100 units of free power to handloom units and 500 units to powerlooms as a part of its measures to enhance the quality of life of weavers.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan called upon the people to take full advantage of Government welfare schemes to improve their socio-economic conditions.

Listing out various schemes implemented by the Central and State Governments, she said the Government had fulfilled the dreams of many landless poor in the villages by executing the two-acre free land scheme.

Mr. Arumugam also distributed free liquefied petroleum gas connections and stoves to 636 persons, free colour television sets to 10 persons and maternity assistance to 50 beneficiaries during the function.

He also inaugurated a newly-constructed overhead water tank in Edapadi. The tank was built at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh with a capacity of 1 lakh litres.

Collector N. Mathivanan presided. Senior officials were present.

In Namakkal district, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries K. Ramachandran handed over documents pertaining to 325.10 acres of land worth Rs. 2.24 crore to 401 beneficiaries.

He said the Government distributed 2137.23 acres of land under the scheme in the district so far. The Government had created adequate infrastructure facilities in the villages.

He also distributed free house sites worth over Rs. 2.32 crore to 1,017 beneficiaries. Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy spoke.
