CHENNAI: Samuel’s double strike helped Chennai Customs edge Chennai Soccer Club 2-1 in a CFA senior division league match on Saturday. Soccer Club had gone ahead in the eighth minute when M. David struck after Manikandan and Bharathiraja had done the spade work from the right. But the joy was shortlived as Samuel found the equaliser in the 20th minute, capping a solo and five minutes later he hoodwinked goalkeeper Sakthivel again with a neat lob after Asif had provided him the pass. City Police posts winCity Police recovered from a 0-1 deficit to record a 2-1 victory over Southern Railway ‘B’ in the senior division hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Saturday. All the three goals came in the first-half. A field goal by Rajasekharan put Southern Railway ahead in the 16th minute, but the Police team restored parity when Dominic netted four minutes before the half time break. Murugan of Police scored the match-winner in the 33d minute through a penalty corner. SAI selection trialsSports Authority of India will hold selection trials for admission to its training centres, special area games centres and extension centres for the year 2008-09. For SAI training centres the trials are on Jan. 8 and 9 (boxing, football, hockey, kabaddi (boys and girls) and volleyball (girls only) and again on Jan. 21 and 22 (athletics, basketball, volleyball, taekwondo (boys and girls), kabaddi (boys). It will be January 27 for SAI extension centre (St. Marys HSS, Dindigul) for volleyball (boys), on January 22 (SAI special area games,Nagercoil) for athletics, kabaddi (boys and girls) and again on January 28 and 29 (SAI Special area games, Rajan Thottam, Mayiladuthurai) in athletics, basketball, hockey, volleyball (boys and girls) and weightlifting (boys).
