Lawyers World Cup from today

HYDERABAD: The Lawyers Twenty-20 World Cup cricket tournament featuring six teams will be formally inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Justice K.G. Balakrishnan at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here on Sunday.

The event, being organised by Indian Advocates Cricket Association, is exclusively for the members of the legal fraternity and will be from December 31 to January 8, with teams from Sri Lanka, West Indies, Australia, England, Pakistan, besides host in the fray.

KV (NPA) wins

Kendriya Vidyalaya (NPA) recorded a three-wicket win over St. Joseph’s High School in the Gold Drop inter-schools cricket tournament (under-15) at Shivrampally near here.

The scores: Raju’s CC 168 for five in 20 overs (Abhinav 66, Anirudh 41) bt Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan NIRD 122 for eight (Akshay Raj three for 23). St. Joseph’s HS 157 for seven (Anudeep 63) lost to Kendriya Vidyalaya, NPA, 158 for seven (Praveen Singh 49, Vijay Singh 40). Aurobindo HS 114 (Srikanth three for 11) lost to GS Vidyaniketan 118 for seven.

Chaitanya, Yatin shine

D.G.J. Chaitanya’s century (149 not out) helped Vijaya Paul Cricket Academy win the under-11 category trophy with a 181-run victory over Daniel Cricket Academy in the Santa Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

The scores:

Finals: Under-11: Vijay Paul CA 325 for three (D.G.J. Chaitanya 149 not out, Sandeep Goud 82 not out) bt Daniel CA 144 (Abhinav Kumar three for seven, Purushotham three for 30).

Under-13: St. John’s HS 180 (Lohit 48, Shiva Prasad 48, Naga Raju three for 28) lost to St. Peter’s HS 181 for five (Ranjeet Kumar 69 not out).

Under-15: Vijay Paul CA 334 for two (Yatin Reddy 151 not out, Rohit Rajan 93, Vamshi Vardhan 37 not out, Surya Teja 31) bt Arshad Ayub CA 156 (Mallickarjun 53, Barkath 30, Aditya Kaundinya three for 30).

VV Nagar in final

Valluvarnagar recorded a solitary goal win over Trimulgherry Village Grounds ‘B’ in the semifinals of the Sudhakar memorial under-14 football tournament here.

The match-winner came through Karthik.

In another semifinal, TVG ‘A’ defeated Rainbow Club 2-1 with Anuj and Johnson striking for the winner while Aman reduced the margin for the loser.
