BLOCKBUSTER: “Superman Returns” starring Brandan Routh to be screened on January 25. Television addicts have been given another reason to stay glued to the tube with HBO lining up a series of smash hits this coming January. The show starts on January 5 with “Munich” starring Eric Bana and Daniel Craig. The movie is based on the shocking assassination of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games. January 11 brings together the masters of slapstick, Robin Williams and Jeff Daniels, in the rip-roaring road movie “RV”. The man with the million dollar smile, Tom Cruise, joins forces with seasoned actor Jack Nicholson in a riveting courtroom drama, “A Few Good Men”, to be telecast on January 13. Starring Keanu Reeves, “The Lake House” on January 19 screens a romance that takes place across different time periods. Reeves, who moves into an all-glass lake house previously occupied by a doctor played by Sandra Bullock, finds a letter in his mailbox and begins a strange correspondence with the writer. The laughs continue all the way to January 27 when Adam Sandler brings viewers his unique brand of goofy comedy in “Little Nicky”. The youngest of Satan’s three children, Nicky (Sandler) vies with his two brothers to occupy the position of Satan’s rightful heir, a situation that is tailor-made for a series of entertaining escapades. The magnum opus, though, is reserved for January 25 with “Superman Returns”. Continuing the story of the original superhero, the movie joins Superman as he returns to earth after spending five years in space searching for the elusive planet “Krypton”. Finding Lois Lane engaged and the evil Lex Luthor planning to build a new continent after demolishing North America, Superman has his task cut out. The film stars Brandon Routh as Superman, a role made famous by the late Christopher Reeve. Kunal Diwan
