Lok Satta Pary president Jayaprakash Narayan addressing press conference in Rajahmundry on Wednesday.

Rajahmundry: Jayaprakash Narayan, national president of Lok Satta Party, has declared that his party would launch second phase of total prohibition movement from next Excise year, that is, from July 2008. He said that this time they would target not only belt shops but also licensed liquor shops which were within 100 meters of radius of any place of worship or educational institution.

Addressing a press conference, before his party’s East Godavari unit meeting here on Wednesday he said that they would give six months and five days to the government to set the things right and after the Excise year commenced. After that, his party units in each village would take up massive agitation against removing belt shops completely from villages and towns and licensed liquor shops, wherever people objected to them. However, he reiterated that they would continue anti-arrack movement and agitate for total prohibition in the State.

Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan clarified that his party was not against Special Economic Zones, but he objected to the way in which the Government was mediating on behalf of industrialists while purchasing lands from farmers.

He demanded that the Government specify what industry was coming up in particular SEZ and should keep out in the negotiations between industrialist and farmer. He said that his party was demanding to pay more price to farmers than market price while taking his land, rehabilitation in SEZ industry like employment guarantee and giving back 50 per cent of developed land to the same farmer.

Replying to a question he said that the Lok Satta had not deviated from its agenda of fight against corruption and they had constituted “People’s Commission” and requested retired Lok Ayukta Justice Ramanujam to head it. It would receive complaints on any one and conduct enquiry.

He criticized the Rs.2 kg rice scheme and Arogysri schemes and suggested that before construction of Polavaram, both Telangana and Rayalaseema people be assured of Godavari water through Krishna and rehabilitation package should be strictly implemented.

Lok Satta Party district president Prasad, secretary Bhaskar Raman, former Minister Ankam Prabhakar Rao and city president Ravi participated in press meet.
