England team fined

DUBAI: The England cricket team has been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during its drawn Test against Sri Lanka that finished on Sunday.

The International Cricket Council said on Monday that the fines were imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe after England was ruled to be four overs short of its target in the third and final Test of the series.

Under the ICC rules, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. The captain is fined double that amount.

The England captain Michael Vaughan was fined 40 per cent of his match fee, and the rest of his team was fined 20 per cent. The ICC’s decision is final and binding. — AP
