Pranoy advances

NELLORE: Kerala’s H.S. Pranoy ousted second seed A. Prakash of Karnataka 21-14, 21-19 to enter the last four even as qualifier K. Vikranth Kumar of Andhra Pradesh hogged the limelight both for the right and wrong reasons in the 32nd junior National badminton championship at the A.C. Subba Reddy Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Vikranth sprung a surprise by ousting Statemate and eight seed Sai Praneeth 21-16, 7-21, 21-17 in a pre-quarterfinal clash. But his euphoria turned out to be short-lived as in the medical test conducted before the quarterfinals, the panel of doctors’ headed by Dr. Ahuja from SAI, declared Vikranth as over-aged and suspended him from further participation in the championship.
