Sakthivel triumphs
Sivakasi: Twelve-year old V.S. Sakthivel Pandian, a seventh standard student of Sivakasi Lions Matriculation Higher Secondary School, won the title in the Virudhunagar District open chess tournament organised by Rathinam Chess Academy at Sivakasi recently.
Pandian tied for honours with P. Maheswaran of SRM College, Chennai, a former State junior champion with 5 points each but the former emerged champion with a better progressive score.
M. Valli Kannu of Ananda Vidyalaya MHSS, Rajapalayam finished third with 4.5 points.
Sun Brothers cricket
Madurai: The sixth annual Sun Brothers Trophy State-level cricket tournament will get under way with a match between host Sun Brothers Cricket Club and Sivakasi Town Cricket Club at the Government HSS ground, Usilampatti on Thursday.
