BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar, which is recently witnessing IT boom like Bangalore several years ago, could end up confronting enormous urban problems such as disposing of wastes and harnessing drinking water, said H. C. Sharatchandra, chairman of the Karnatak State Pollution Control Board here on Thursday. “The biggest problem in Bangalore, which is already showing in Bhubaneswar, is the growth of the city. Water resource is limited. Much of the water is coming as groundwater,” Mr. Sharatchandra said on the sidelines of a national seminar on environmental law organised by the Orissa State Pollution Control Board here. He said, “Wherever big apartment is coming up in Bangalore, we have very clearly told builders to show us the water source. They have to get clearance from groundwater authority that the place has adequate groundwater.” Stating that second major problem in Bhubaneswar and Bangalore was waste water, he said, “the moment you give water, 80 per cent goes as waste. Very few cities in Indian have sewerage treatment plants in individual constructions..”
