CUTTACK: The State Crime branch police achieved a major success earlier this week when they arrested the abductors of a minor girl who was abducted from Tangi area of Nayagarh district about two years ago. Crime branch sleuths with the help of Gujarat police apprehended the key accused Balendra Pradhan and his brother Sangram from Gandhidham in Kutch area of Gujarat and brought them to Orissa on Wednesday, said a press release issued by the State police headquarters here on Thursday. According to the release, Balendra and some of his relatives kidnapped the 15-year-old girl from Tangi in September 2005. Following written complaints from her father, the local Ranpur police had registered a case under Section 366 (A) and 34 of the IPC. Subsequently; the Crime branch took up the case in July 2006. Investigating the case, Crime branch police arrested a few persons, including the parents of Balendra. On interrogations, police came to know that the girl was taken to Cuttack, Dhenkanal and West Bengal after abduction. She was then shifted to Gandhidham in Gujarat where she was kept in a confinement and was sexually tortured by the kidnappers. During the confinement in Kutch, the girl conceived and delivered a baby girl about a year ago. But last month, the girl managed to escape from her kidnappers and reached home along with her one-year-old daughter on November 27, the press release added. After collecting information about the hideouts of the kidnappers from the girl, the Crime branch police got in touch with the Gujarat police. Making a joint raid, they arrested Balendra and his younger brother Sangram. The brothers were escorted back to the State on Wednesday and were produced before the local JMFC court on Thursday.
